Two Face

Okay- so first off, I need to apologize! I had this amazing blog schedule going, and was following it to a “T” and then, fell off the face of the earth. No bueno! I want to take a moment to apologize- there’s really no good excuse for it, aside from the truth, which is that despite my ambitions to be a daily blogger, time is just not on my side.

As some of you know, photography is not all that I do. I have been keeping my two professions so separate, it has been like I was living two different lives, but the truth is, I can separate my professions completely because they both make up who I am.  So- I am coming clean! In addition to being a photographer, I am a counselor, friend, enforcer, nurse, and educator. In other words, I am a teacher. If there is one thing I can say about being a teacher this time of the year- is it is busy! Although I am fully able to balance photo shoots, editing, teaching, and our upcoming FCAT assessments, but other activities  sadly have to fall  lower on my priority list. With Spring rolling around, I have begun to assess what I need to apply my spring cleaning to.

Just as I am going to be gutting my wardrobe, I need to assess my priorities, and decide where I should be allocating my time. After assessing my time management in detail, it appears that I need to allocate less time toward blogging. Although this makes me sad to throw away my amazing blog schedule, I still vow to blog once a week! I love connecting with my target market, and my favorite way to do this is via Wednesday Inspiration. Any negativity is too much negativity, and I love the positivity that I feel I can share through these posts.

Since this post has already become so lengthy, I will simply end this post with a small (day late) dose of inspiration.

I always have to remind myself that the only person I should compare myself to, is the person I used to be. Focusing on my own growth as a teacher, photographer, fiance, and friend allows me to assess my own growth, and continue to develop. Look back at yourself a day, week, or month ago and assess your personal growth. Rather than becoming bogged down by professionals who have been photographing for decades with thousands of dollars invested in equipment, I look back at my own previous work. When I look back at my own images, I am amazed to see how much my artistic abilities have grown, and it inspires me to continue growing and challenging myself.

Beautiful You: Get Catty

Happy Thursday!

Do you know what that means? One more day until Friday! I don’t know about you, but I was basically jumping up and down as I said that! With the weekend approaching, I decided to go with a make-up tutorial. Many of you who know me probably have noticed that I am a HUGE fan of the 1960’s cat eye style as my current eyeliner go-to.

My first few tries- complete disasters. My best tip for you would be to give yourself time for mistakes. Yes, you will make them. Anticipate them and be ready for them. Q-tips and make-up remover will be you r best friend. Now, even after numerous times of mastering this look, I still need to give myself some margin for error, because I know I will make them {I swear my eyes are uneven, making this a very complicated look at times}.

I have found this Lauren Conrad Make-up tutorial to be one of the bests, so follow along, take your time, and enjoy how fab you look at the end!

Wednesday Inspiration

Hey you,

Did you know that:

If you find that you are living your life day in and day out unhappy- don’t let routine prevent you from finding happiness. Every day of life is a blessing, and you deserve to find happiness in the one short life that you live. I love this quote so much because it reminds me of how valuable every single day is, and how blessed I  am to be living that day. The things we do to fill our days should have purpose, meaning, and fulfillment to them. Don’t allow yourself to believe that anything that you are doing is not important.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived- that is to have succeeded.” This quote is the philosophy that caused me to become a teacher. I wanted to change lives, and although I do impact lives on a daily basis, I sometimes wonder that if I could show my students how the world sees them, how truly incredible and irreplaceable they are like I do from behind my lens for my clients- would they learn to love and respect themselves more? I know they would. I know that in this moment, I might not feel like I have met my goals or that I am where I want to be, but I am impacting lives, and I try to remind myself that the things that I am doing today are important, because I am trading a day of my life for it.

What do you trade your life for every day? Do you feel the meaning in the things that you do? Are there goals you wish you were working towards? Leave your thoughts and love below.

Seeking Sole Mates

Ever notice how despite your best efforts socks mysteriously disappear? I’m pretty positive that I have ten single sets of socks, longingly waiting to me worn again. Well luckily for them- fashion and beauty trends have found a way to be re-purposed: the sock bun.

Not going to lie, sock buns are my savior any time that I am running late or want to add an extra oomph of sleekness to my attire, but now that everyone is doing them, I began to search for new ways to reinvent the sock bun.

I introduce to you: The braided sock bun! I found this awesome tutorial on bebexo’s youtube page, and instantly knew that it was perfect for a Beautiful You segment. Although I do my sock buns a bit differently, this is another technique that might be easier for beginners.

I love how fun this braided sock bun looks. It adds some extra edge and takes away some of the sleekness that “normal” sock buns have. It’s perfect for a day of hanging out with friends or even a night on the town. How do you feel about sock buns and this braided version? Comment below and let me know!

Day Trip

So I am going to keep this post short, sweet, and to the point. This weekend we made a day trip to St. Augustine- total.blast. I finally got to play with my new f/1.4 lens, and have to say I am completely smitten with it. The images I took- even just a quick point, shoot, and run, came out stunning. Since I had so much fun taking these pictures, I chose a few photos of the week to share with you! Hope you enjoy!

As for the rest of my day… I am off from teaching to the day (thanks President’s Day!) but am booked for a photo shoot, and am SO excited to work with my gorgeous client! Happy Monday loves! Which photo of the week is your favorite? Comment below and share your thoughts!

Friday Fashion Superbowl

As some of you might know, Friday’s here on the blog are exclusively Fashion days.

As many of you should know, New York’s Fashion week is in full swing.

Lauren Conrad, designer, blogger, and TV personality (man I miss The Hills and Laguna Beach!) has done an amazing job of covering Fashion week, so rather than reinventing the blogger-wheel, I decided to share her blog posts with you!

Fashion Week: 6 Fun Facts You Should Know

Fashion Week: Backstage Beauty: Our Favorite Fashion Week Looks (Beauty Post)

Fashion Week: Kate Spade Spotlight

The lost goes on! The girls have been blogging like crazy at laurenconrad.com, but those are a few of my favorites. I hope you enjoyed them as much as I did! If only I could steal some of those outfits through my screen…. a girl can dram!

Valentines Day Make-Up

Hey gorgeous,

I was originally going to post a hair tutorial, but then, I realized that today’s Beautiful You falls on Saint Valentines Day! For those of you who do not know, Valentines Day began as a liturgical celebration. It is said that Saint Valentine was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry. In lieu of this romantic holiday, I decided to hold off on the hair tutorial, and to share with you a romantic styled make-up tutorial by one of my favorites, CarliBel55 on YouTube.

Also, today’s holiday marks the end of my Peek-a-boo photo-shoot special. Sad day! If you were interested in a photo-shoot experience with Pour L’amour, carpe diem. Don’t let life pass you by. You deserve to pamper yourself.

Do you love this make-up tutorial or what? I’m thinking I need to use it myself for a self-portrait soon… What are you doing for Valentines Day? Share in the comments below!

Wednesday Inspiration

Hey you!

Yes, you. You are wonderful, intelligent, and a visionary. Don’t let anyone fool you into believing otherwise. Every now and then, we all need a pick me up, and a reminder that we are irreplaceable. I know that I do, and today, I want you to know your worth. I know sometimes we question our choices and the paths that we are taking, but as long as we are moving forward- we are doing exactly what we should be doing. Only when we stop or quit, do we lose.

Movement is what fuels progression. If you are unhappy- set a new goal. Redirect your path. As one of my favorite writers, C.S. Lewis, says, “You are never too old to set another goal, or to dream a new dream.” I live by this mantra, and I know that because I refuse to let unhappiness rule my life, that I am winning. I know I am doing exactly what I should be doing right at this exact moment by helping people to find self-love and self-worth through artistic images. Don’t worry about the future. Live in the  moment, and the pieces will all fall exactly where they are supposed to.
